27th January 2016Category: Young Carers
Before Christmas we had planned to hold a big Christmas party for 50 young carers, unfortunately due to the widespread flooding which affected much of the county, the party had to be cancelled.
While we were discussing how to make it up to our Young Carers it was mentioned that 2016’s Young Carers Awareness Day was happening on 28th January. This seemed like the perfect opportunity to re-schedule the planned celebration!
Therefore, this 28th January we will be hosting a whopping big party to celebrate all the amazing work Young Carers in West Cumbria do. The party will have a DJ, disco, games and party food and we will be providing transport there and back for those that need it!
Young Carers Awareness Day is a national day of recognition for the 700,000 young carers in the UK who work around the clock providing care and support to family and friends.
You can help spread the news by signing up for the social media Thunderclap. And be sure to keep an eye out for lots of exciting activity on the day itself.
The day shines a spotlight on the vast range of tasks that young carers carry out, day-in-day-out – highlighting how children are missing out on their childhoods because they are looking after their parents or siblings.
This years day of action for young carers also includes numerous ‘audience with young carers’ events taking place across the country, in a bid to help identify others who may not know they are a young carer, and help them to receive the help and support they desperately need.
