If you want to talk things through you can make a one hour appointment to meet with the LPA Team in our Cockermouth office. We will prepare your documentation and get it registered, handling all correspondence with the Office of the Public Guardian. All you need to then do is collect the signatures. Our team will support you by telephone and post (electronic means is an option if you prefer) to complete your LPA. We will prepare your documentation and get it registered, handling all correspondence with the Office of the Public Guardian. All you need to then do is collect the signatures. We can even collect signatures of any attorneys who live a long distance away from you or who are isolating. The price for this service is £165 per LPA. There is currently a 10% discount for making two LPAs (£297.00 for two).
Similar to a passport checking service for £25 per LPA our team can check your completed paperwork is filled in correctly so it won’t be rejected by the Office of the Public Guardian, which can be costly. THIS SERVICE IS CURRENTLY OPERATING AS A ‘DRIVE-THRU’ BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
In a one hour appointment for £50 we can talk you through the terms and process, pitfalls, fee exemptions and things to consider. Alternatively, for £65 per LPA, you can bring all the relevant details with you and we can type them into the form, print the LPA and make it simple to sign up. TEMPORARILY PROVIDED BY TELEPHONE/VIDEO ONLY
Got other questions about LPA? Phone or email us. We provide a range of related services at reasonable prices.
In addition to the above prices the Office of the Public Guardian will also require a payment of £82* to register each LPA. You may be eligible for a reduction or exemption of this charge if you receive certain benefits or can prove a low income. The most common benefits that give our customers exemptions are: Housing Benefit; Pension Credit (Guarantee Element) or Council Tax Reduction (not single occupancy), but there are others.

Circumstances change. An LPA needs to keep up with them. People move house, change their names. Unfortunately, they change relationships, get into financial difficulties, die, lose mental capacity or become disabled.
The Office of the Public Guardian needs to be informed so the national register of LPAs can be kept up to date, and so that your LPA is still useful. We can manage these communications for you.

If you made your LPA at the same time as your Will or maybe along with buying a house, you may not be covered for Health and Welfare decisions. If you want to appoint someone to make these kinds of decisions for you, you need to make a second LPA especially for the purpose. Meanwhile, your existing LPA is still good for decisions about finance and property.
(Here at West Cumbria Carers we love Social Workers, but we wouldn’t want them to be solely responsible for our welfare decisions, and they wouldn’t want to be!)

An Enduring Power of Attorney made before October 2007 can still be used, but how do you use it? And how and when do you register it? Or what if you want to change it? Discuss it with us.
Also many people are surprised that an Enduring Power of Attorney doesn’t cover Health and Welfare. If you want to appoint someone to make these kinds of decisions for you, you need to make a Lasting Power of Attorney especially for the purpose. Meanwhile, your Enduring Power of Attorney is still good for decisions about finance and property.

If you would like us to support you to make an LPA application we will need to collect information about you, your chosen attorneys and your certificate provider so we can complete the official registration form.
