The CEA Card is a national scheme provided to people with a disability. Cinemas that participate can provide a complimentary ticket for someone to attend a film with a card holder.

The following cinemas in Cumbria participate in the scheme:
You can find more information or apply for a CEA Card by visiting their website at www.ceacard.co.uk or calling Tel: 023 9224 8545 or Textphone: 18001 023 9224 8545
In addition to participating in the CEA Card scheme each of the cinemas also offer the following facilities for carers and the people they care for:
Audio Description is a fantastic service for people with sight loss. The normal film soundtrack comes through the cinemas surround sound speakers in the usual way, whilst a recorded narrator explains what's happening on screen - in gaps in the dialogue - through personal headphones. It's similar to listening to a cricket or football match on the radio - having the action described to you - but with added surround sound, which places you in the middle of the action.
Subtitling projects the dialogue onto the screen for reading by people who cannot hear it.
Induction loop is used by hearing aid wearers, it is designed to remove background noise which otherwise might be picked up by the hearing aid. The hearing aid is switched to the “T” setting or loop program and receives the soundtrack via the loop. No other equipment is needed.
Infrared systems ‘bathe’ the cinema audience in infrared light which transmits the dialogue to special equipment worn by any person with the hearing impairment. The equipment for these systems can be borrowed from the cinema.
Each of the cinemas try to run subtitled and audio described films most weeks. Check with your local cinema for details.
Autism Friendly or Relaxed Screenings originally developed to help people with conditions such as Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome they can also be great for people with dementia or other cognitive conditions.
In most cases the cinema will ensure that during the film:
