Young Carers Action Day is taking place on Tuesday 16th March 2021 and the theme is Protect Young Carers Futures.
Young/young adult carers told Carers Trust that they wanted the day to be about their futures, highlighting the incredible skills they have developed through being a carer – like resilience, time-management and empathy.
These are all important skills, not just for young people moving into higher education - but also for those looking to enter the workplace. What’s more, they are skills highly sought after by employers.
Here at West Cumbria Carers we wanted to show young carers that their caring experience can help them in their future, especially when looking at employment options, so we reached out to local employers asking for help. The response has been overwhelming and we would like to say a huge thank you to all the organisations and personnel who contributed to this campaign.
Throughout the day we will be publishing a series of short videos featuring these local employers explaining how the skill and experiences that Young Carers gain would be of benefit in their workplace.
Young Carers Action Day is an annual event, organised by Carers Trust.
It has taken place over the last six years to raise awareness of young carers and the incredible contribution they make to their families and local communities.
Until now, YCAD stood for Young Carers Awareness Day. But following feedback from young carers, some changes have been made, including the name!
What’s new about YCAD this year?
Thanks to some really important feedback from young carers, we’ve made some really important changes:
