Wellbeing for Young Carers
25th November 2020
Category: Young Carers
Earlier this year we purchased a series of Carers Wellbeing videos designed to give carers an opportunity to take a short break and learn a new technique to relax and recharge.
Due to their popularity we asked Jacqui to develop some online sessions specifically for Young Carers. We had some really positive feedback from these with Young Carers saying they had found them very useful and enjoyable.
Not everyone could attend the live sessions so we are delighted that we can now offer them as a series of recordings on our website. You can watch the first video now!
This video series aims to help you understand yourself better and know what makes you tick. This will lead to you being better equipped to manage your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order to lead happier and more peaceful lives.
Head over to the Wellbeing for Young Carers section of our Media Gallery to watch.
A new video will be uploaded every Wednesday for the next 5 weeks – look out for #WellbeingWednesday on social media. Once the videos have been uploaded you can watch them whenever you want and as often as you want.
The videos in the series include:
- Introduction
A short 20-minute introduction to the upcoming sessions.
- Session 1
Learn how to ease a troubled or overwhelmed mind by applying and practicing some of these mindfulness, orienting and anchoring techniques.
- Session 2
This session is all about how the brain works and why we get anxious and stressed. It's also about noticing our automatic negative thoughts (ANT's) ... and then squashing them!
- Session 3
Explore how creating a sanctuary (physical or mental) and using rituals can help us find stability and get some control back in our lives, especially when things feel uncertain out there! We also look at sleep and how important it is for our well-being.
- Session 4
In this video Jacqui explains the model of change and how it relates to the current situation. The second half of the video is devoted to the topic of mind-set’s or attitudes.
- Session 5
Discover what it means to develop resiliency and how to nurture it. Also, what is the 'PERMA' model and how can you use it?
Hint: PERMA is an acronym for five important building blocks of well-being and happiness: Positive emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Achievement.
- Session 6
The last video looks at the 5 ways to well-being and the power of gratitude.
If you have any problem viewing these on your PC or device please let us know and we will try to help you to access them.
