As part of their Tercentenary celebrations each group was asked to nominate a worthy local charity to receive a donation and the South West Cumberland Group chose us!
Our Chief Officer, Sue Whitehead and Young Carers Project Manager, Michelle Watson were presented with the cheque at the Provincial Concert on 9th September.
Angela Longrigg our Volunteer Co-ordinator and Carers Health Worker, Bernie Cresswell also attended the event, which was hosted by the Cumberland and Westmorland Freemasons. Our team received a very warm welcome and the amazing evening was enjoyed by all.
Earlier this year Group Chairman, Andrew Moore, along with 6 other group members, visited our offices to talk with staff about who will benefit from the donation.
The group was surprised to learn that children as young as 5 are carers and that their caring role can affect their schooling and general health. Part of the Freemasons donation will be used to provide additional one to one support sessions to these young carers. These sessions will help the children to cope with the problems that they may experience.
The remaining funds will be used by the volunteer project to help us to expand the range of volunteer services we can offer to our carers.
