A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document which is registered with The Office of the Public Guardian. It allows a person, or people, you have chosen to manage your affairs when you are unable to do so due to mental or physical incapacity.
There are two types of LPA, one deals with Financial Decisions the other with Health and Care decisions. You can complete the forms for registration online directly at www.gov.uk/opg. Each LPA costs £82 to register.
You could suddenly lose the capacity to make decisions and arrangements at any time due to a serious accident or health emergency; leaving those caring for you to deal with the emotional and financial consequences. Without an LPA in place they may be unable make the decisions you would want, or be able to act in your best interest.
It may be a temporary situation - for instance if you are in hospital and need help managing paying bills or other financial matters. You may also want to put these plans in place as you get older or if you have a health condition which means you may lose mental capacity to make your own decisions in the future.
We understand the process of registration can seem overwhelming so we have developed a range of services which can be tailored to suit your requirements.
Gold Service - You can arrange to meet our team to complete your LPA at our offices and leave with the typed LPA ready for signature. This service is £180.00 per LPA.
Silver Service - Our team support you by post to complete and submit your LPA to the Office of the Public Guardian. The price for this service is £150.00 per LPA.
Bronze Service - Similar to a passport checking service - for £25.00 per LPA our team can check your completed paperwork is filled in correctly so it won’t be rejected by the Office of the Public Guardian, which can be costly.
Office Visit – You can arrange to meet us to talk in more detail about LPA and discuss your requirements. We charge £40 for this visit, deductible from the cost of the Gold or Silver Service should you go on to use them.
All profits generated by this service go directly to support West Cumbria Carers
