Welcome to West Cumbria Carers. This website is designed to provide information and support to Carers, as well as friends and family who are supporting Carers.

A Carer is anyone who: “Cares for a family member, relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or learning disability”.

Many people do not think of themselves as Carers at all.  Often people say “It’s just what you do”, “I’m just his Mum”, “My Dad looked after me all my life, now I’m looking after him”.

You may be caring for family or a friend but you are still a Carer and West Cumbria Carers is here to offer support to you.  We do this in a variety of ways and have specific projects to support different needs:

Adult Carers Project - for Carers aged 25 and over

Transitional Carers Project - working with Carers from the age of 18 to 24

Young Carers Project - working with Carers from the age of 5 to 17

Employment Project - to support Carers wishing to return to work or who are in employment and need assistance to manage work and their caring role

Volunteer Project - to provide one-to-one support and respite breaks to Carers

Carers are the largest source of care and support in each area of the UK and it is in everyone’s interest they are supported.  With an ageing population, we will need more care provision from families and friends in the future, and this is an issue that will touch everyone’s life at some point.
