Thank you to everyone who voted for our Young Carers Project in the NatWest CommunityForce initiative. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in achieving enough votes to secure this funding. However, we would like to thank everyone who ‘donated’ their email addresses; and know that the funds will go to support a project elsewhere in our communities.

There are still some homemade cards available!
Look out for them at our fundraising events and open days,
or ask a Support Worker to bring them along to the next group.
We ask only for a donation, and one of these gorgeous cards can be yours.
They are all blank so you can use them for any and every occasion.

West Cumbria Carers has recently been successful in receiving a Grant of £600 from the Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust www.julesthorntrust.org.uk This Grant has been granted to further the West Cumbria Carers Volunteer Project,
and we are very grateful for their support.

We would also like to extend our thanks to the Proven Family Trust, Cockermouth who generously donated towards the Volunteer Project.

Margaret Hewitson, a member of the West Cumbria Carers Board walked Hadrian’s Wall the week commencing 12th September to raise funds for West Cumbria Carers.  We would like to thank and commend her for such a formidable undertaking! Enthusiastic and committed walkers risked blisters and wearing out boot leather to help raise awareness of the needs of Carers and boost support for our service.  Seven walkers bravely tackled the full 84 miles of the wall starting from Wallsend on Monday, 12th September and finished in Bowness-on-Solway the following Saturday.

If you would like to make a donation in honour of Margaret’s endeavours, you still can. Simply send us a cheque made payable to West Cumbria Carers to 12a Selby Terrace, Maryport, Cumbria CA15 6NF.

The winner of ‘Clarence’, which was the name of the Bear is: Brian Scogings: Congratulations Brian! This raised a total of £29 for West Cumbria Carers, many thanks to all who participated, and indeed, for the donation of Clarence himself!

The highest bidder for the Print, gifted by Peter Knight’s was Caroline Sullivan, our Support Worker! The auction raised a total of £23 for West Cumbria Carers. Again, our thanks go to those who participated, and to Peter Knight for his generous contribution.

The above print has been generously gifted to West Cumbria Carers by Peter Knight, a Derbyshire based artist and printmaker.  Peter has work on show in public collections in Hull, Sheffield and Buxton, and a print of this size would usually retail at around £50 in art galleries. We thought it would be fun to do some fundraising by way of a ‘Sealed Bids Auction’. So, if you would like this print, simply contact the office by email, note or telephone by Wednesday 31st August, and let us know the maximum amount you would like to donate to West Cumbria Carers to be the proud owner of this original artwork.
We will decree the ‘winner’ the one with the highest bid in by noon on 31st August 2011.
Good luck!
PS. If you would like to see the print in person, contact the office, or ask the relevant Support Worker to bring it along to the next Support Group.
